Wichita, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Ron Baker scored 22 points to lead an efficient effort from Wichita State that carried the 11th-ranked Shockers to a 77-68 victory over previously undefeated Seton Hall. Baker finished 9-of-11 from the field and hit all three of his 3-point tries, while Darius Carter recorded 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting and added 12 rebounds for Wichita State (6-1). Fred VanVleet contributed 18 points and eight assists to the Shockers 22nd straight win at Koch Arena. The Pirates (7-1) entered the matchup as one of only 11 remaining Division I teams with an unblemished record, but werent able to handle the step up in competition in their toughest test to date. Seton Hall did get a game-high 23 points out of Isaiah Whitehead and 19 from Sterling Gibbs, but were plagued by 18 turnovers and trailed by as many as 21 before making a late push. The Shockers overcame a cold early shooting display to build a 34-18 lead late in the first half, taking charge via a 26-5 run fueled by their defense. Whitehead dropped in eight quick points to stake Seton Hall to a 13-8 edge eight minutes in, but Wichita State moved ahead to stay with a 13-0 spurt in which it netted nine points off four Pirate turnovers. Seton Hall had three more giveaways -- all of which led to easy Shocker baskets -- during an 11-0 flurry that accounted for Wichita States 16-point cushion with 2:25 to go before halftime. The Shockers forced 12 turnovers overall for the period to cruise into the break owning a 40-25 lead. Wichita State continued to hit shots in the second half to prevent the Pirates from chipping away at the deficit, claiming a comfortable 66-46 advantage with 7 1/2 minutes left following back-to-back 3-pointers by VanVleet and Baker. Seton Hall was able to make the outcome a bit more respectable in the final 2 1/2 minutes, with Gibbs burying a trio of threes to spark a 9-2 Pirates run to finish out the contest. Game Notes The Shockers recorded 24 total points off turnovers and outscored Seton Hall by a 38-24 margin in the paint ... Gibbs, Seton Halls leading scorer coming in, did not have a point in the first half while spending much of the period on the bench in foul trouble ... Wichita State extended its home win streak over non-conference opponents to 30 straight ... The lone previous meeting between the programs took place in the First Round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament, an 86-66 Wichita State victory in Greensboro, NC. http://www.teamcolombiasoccer.com/James-Rodriguez-Copa-America-Jersey/ . - Florida State has suspended Jameis Winston for the entire game against Clemson on Saturday, extending its initial punishment of one half after the quarterback made offensive and vulgar comments about female anatomy earlier this week. http://www.teamcolombiasoccer.com/Daniel-Torres-Copa-America-Jersey/ . Here is an open letter from Steven Stamkos to his fans: When I shot this final Moment Zero film last August, it was a fun few days on set with Coke Zero and Jordan Eberle in my hometown of Markham.Record-breaking teenage athlete Sabrina Sinha is determined to force her way into medal contention at the European Athletic Youth Championships later this summer. The multi-talented Greenwich athlete, who turned 17 in April, has excelled over distances ranging from 800m to 3000m on the track, as well as cross-country races up to six kilometres. The south-east Londoner broke her 1500m personal best twice in the space of seven days at the end of last month and hopes to build on that momentum at the European Youths in the Georgian capital of Tblisi in July. Ive still got such a long way to go who knows what the future can hold, Sinha told Sky Sports.Im not even allowed to run the distances Id be able to at senior level but Im enjoying it at the moment and Im looking forward to a good junior season and then slowly making the transition to senior level.Im aiming to go to the Europeans this season and make a final but what I really want is a medal. I went to the World Youths [in Colombia] last year and based on my performances there I think I have a good chance. Sinha was recognised by Prince Harry when he presented her with medal after Mini London marathon Sinha produced another sterling display at the Mini London Marathon at the end of April as she won her age category race for an unprecedented sixth time in a row.Ive won it every year so as you can imagine I absolutely love it, she said.Running the last three miles of the actual London Marathon circuit just as the crowds are starting to get there is so inspiring. And being a Londoner from Greenwich I always get lots of people cheering me on even if they dont necessarily know who I am, which is nice.Meeting Prince Harry after winning is probably the best bit as hes given me my medal three times now. He even recognised me last time and said I know you, youve been here before the last two or three times. I have been following it since I knew it was being made because Jesse Owens is my ultimate idol and has been since I was a little girl.I did a project on him when I was younger and always felt like I could relate to his story. Jesse overcame so much discrimination and showed us what sport can be about and how it can inspire others.SportsAid is the official charity partner of the movie RACE (in Cinemas June 3) in the UK. Race is based on the incredible true story of Jesse Owenss quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in the face of adversity.
